How to Make Crab Cakes

Making a delicious crab cake is not difficult. Read along and learn how to make crab cakes with text instructions and video. Seafood is an excellent choice of foods when you want to serve something that tastes great, and is usually good for you at the same time. Serving tasty crab cakes as an appetizer or even main course, can be a culinary event when they are prepared properly.
First you will need to determine what type of crab meat you will use in your creation. Will you use blue crab lump meat or dungeness crab. Being from the South, my first choice would be to find fresh live blue crabs and pick out the sweet crab meat. You can make that decision, but make sure that you use the best quality crabmeat that you can find.

While there are many different recipes for the perfect crab cake, the best ones will be all about the crab meat and not the fillers or coatings. Most all recipes will outline some type of binder which is generally bread crumbs or crushed saltine crackers, raw eggs, worcestershire sauce, dash of salt and Old Bay Seasoning. Next you will add in your fresh crabmeat, and gently flake and break apart. Next thing to do is to then easily mix and fold together all of the ingredients. Let the mixture cool in the refrigerator for a little while so that the ingredients marry up some. When you are ready to cook, then on medium heat, heat up your cast-iron skillet or non-stick skillet with real butter. Shape your mixture into small patties, and then put into the skillet. Cook until done, which is about golden brown on both sides. Serve and enjoy.

This video recipe outlines exactly what you need to do to make a delicious crabcake.

This recipe calls for you to crumble up some saltine crackers, crushed fine, in a mixing bowl. Keep in mind to use just enough crushed crackers as needed to hold the crabmeat together. Then add mayonnaise, dijon mustard, old bay seasoning, worcestershire sauce, a raw egg and a little salt. Next add in the crab meat, either blue crab or dungeness crab meat. All of these ingredients will be gently mixed and folded together. Once you are ready to cook, you can then make the mixture into small patty sized cakes. Heat up your non-stick skillet with butter and gently fry the crab cakes on both sides until golden brown. Serve with the sides of your choice and enjoy.
